Ensures the safe and effective use of medications by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration, and drug therapy monitoring services in the UVA Medical Center. Monitors inpatient and outpatient drug therapies when appropriate and works with related medical staff to find alternatives when needed to ensure the best care possible is being given.

As the dedicated pharmacist for the oncology inpatient units, you’ll play a vital role in supporting patients undergoing stem cell transplantation, cellular therapy, and treatment for malignant hematologic conditions.

What You’ll Do:

  • Ensure safe, effective, and individualized medication therapy for high-acuity oncology patients
  • Collaborate with hematology-oncology specialists, transplant teams, and nursing staff
  • Support advanced treatments including CAR-T, DLI infusions, and novel immunotherapies
  • Contribute to education, mentorship, and continuous professional development

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s in pharmacy or PharmD degree required.
  • Experience: PGY-1 residency required or equivalent hospital experience (three years). PGY-2 residency is preferred for specialty areas.
  • Licensure/Certifications: Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy license required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s in pharmacy or PharmD degree
  • Experience: PGY-2 residency in hematology oncology or relevant clinical experience
  • Licensure/Certifications: Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy license required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Physical Demands – Job requires sitting for prolonged periods; repetitive motion: typing. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull less than 20 pounds. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.

Compensation

  • The pay rate for this role starts at $64.37 per hour. New hire compensation will be determined by education and experience.

Onboarding Requirements

Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.

Position compensation range: $55.67–$89.07 hourly
