DIRECTOR OF NURSING JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Nursing will report directly to the Senior Director of Operations. The Director of Nursing will be responsible for coordinating nursing services for all active patients on service and will be responsible for promoting continual process improvement within the department. The Director of Nursing will execute nursing department initiatives in support of identified company goals and objectives.

In this role, he/she will have access to Protected Health Information (PHI) and Electronic Protected Health Information (EPHI).

Job Requirements and Essential Functions

  • Supervise all Heritage Biologics infusion nurses, facilitate orientation for new nursing staff, and coordinate ongoing training.
  • Oversee the delegation of nursing services to contracted nursing agencies, ensuring that the quality of service is continuously evaluated. Serve as the main point of contact between Heritage Biologics and contracted agencies.
  • Ensure all assigned RNs have access to up-to-date patient orders and clinical documentation
  • Actively promote open communication between nursing staff and the patients, implementing process changes as appropriate to optimize communication
  • Implement plans to ensure all nursing documentation meets external accreditation and compliance standards.
  • Actively seek a resolution to identified issues in the department and advocate for process changes, as necessary.
  • Develop assessment tools to assist in measuring the performance of Heritage Biologics staff nurses and contracted nursing providers
  • Identify and implement nursing department performance objectives, implementing projects as necessary to support the performance improvement program
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, infusion therapy standards of practice regulatory changes (Infusion Nurses Society, INS), and new technologies in home infusion; applies this knowledge to communicate policy, procedure, and resource changes to the leadership team.
  • Coordinate with Quality to ensure nursing policies and procedures remain up to date with industry standards and internal processes.
  • Support the efforts of implementation of new therapies, including limited distribution products, overseeing nurse training, competency programs and patient education related to these therapies
  • Identify and implement necessary improvements to existing clinical training programs, as required.
  • Collaborate with Operations and IT team members to develop customized assessments, per individual disease state or therapy type, specific to payer requirements, etc.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team on new patient admissions, including nursing needs evaluation, initial assessment and patient education.
  • Facilitate ongoing care coordination for all active patients of Heritage Biologics receiving nursing services, including nurse scheduling confirmation.
  • Support the Executive Leadership team on various projects and goals, as needed.
  • Perform yearly performance evaluations for all direct reports
  • Support the Plano, TX pharmacy branch by serving as the Supervising Nurse, pursuant to the Licensing Standards for Home and Community Support Services Agencies (HCSSA).
  • Complete Initial Educational Training and Continuing Education in Administration of Agencies, as required (§558.259, §558.260)



Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse; must maintain an active and unrestricted nursing license in Kansas, Missouri, and Texas, preferably with a Compact Agreement
  • Minimum 4 years nursing experience in an infusion setting, home infusion setting preferred
  • Minimum 2 years in a nursing leadership role
  • Valid state driver’s license, reliable automobile and proof of current automobile insurance
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Hands on skills session required)
  • Competency in placement of peripheral IV catheters and accessing central venous access devices
  • Strong understanding of standard clinical procedures and nursing rules and regulations
  • Demonstrate a high degree of responsibility regarding accuracy and quality of work, ensuring excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Functional knowledge and use of electronic medical record systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree
  • Experience with infusing biologics and specialty pharmaceutical products
  • CRNI, IgCN or other infusion credentialing
  • Meet the qualifications and conditions for the Supervising Nurse set out in the Texas Administrative Code Minimum Standards for all Home and Community Support Services Agencies (HCSSA)

Physical Requirements and Screenings

  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds
  • Physical screening complete with no limitations to performing job duties
